Mycroft Holmes and Sherlock Holmes

Mycroft says difficult, but I think the relationship between the brothers is more… different; complex, maybe? Because sometimes they slip and there’s looks, or twitches of lips. Like when John says something to Mycroft, “That wasn’t very clever,” and Sherlock smiles. He likes riling Mycroft up. And Mycroft, upon realising the harm he’d done sending Sherlock in Irene’s path, looks remarkably sad and sorry. Because he always worries. 

And sometimes I think it’s more the image of control and authority that Mycroft puts up in public (and even in front of Sherlock), and how Sherlock loathes it, that complicates their relationship. In a scene where they seem wiped blank of their masks, that at the morgue, the question Sherlock asks, it sounds like something that’s been asked—and answered in the same way, before. And it’s not only their intellect that separates them from the rest. It’s also in the way that they are so removed, so detached. Perhaps it’s what’s also stopping them from having a relationship that’s a bit less adversarial, maybe even approaching tolerable.
